Dan's Flog (Fishing Log)
4-29-08 The Brady Statesman PDF Print E-mail
The second half of my spring fling group was with Holly and James Stewart from Brady.  Holly started it off with a nice redfish and followed it up with another.  She then put 2 sheepshead in the box and James caught a nice drum.  The wind died down completely and it made it difficult on us.  Lately it has been blowing hard or not at all.  I am ready for a steady weather pattern, unfortunately it will finally settle in to a HOT pattern when it calms down.  James and Holly were a lot of fun to fish with and they wrote an awesome article on Rockport and its fishing.

I was fishing for the Rockport Chamber of Commerce today and we went for the reds.  I haJack Sanders of the Flatstalker Company and he tore it up.  He caught and released 9 big redfish in a small back lake in St. Charles.  I also had John Goodspeed of the San Antonio Express News.  We caught an assortment of trout, redfish, and drum.  It was a pretty short day, but the results were nice.

I was part of a 2 boat group today and the weather hit us again.  Our first stop netted us a few big trout, but then the weather came in.  Strong north winds and heavy rain ended the day early for us.

Today I had Jack Goldstien and his girlfiend Kim from Wyoming.  I fished with them in the fall and it was awesome, but the weather wasn't kind to us today.  We did manage some decent fish, but the numbers weren't there.  Kim caught a nice flounder early and then the bite dropped off for a while.  We ended up with 5 fish and we had to work hard to get them.

50 Years and Still Fishing 4-19-08 PDF Print E-mail
Gene Forester celebrated 50 years of marriage today by catching the biggest trout of his life.  His wife was kind enough to send him fishing today and we had a good trout bite early.  The croaker are still very small, but in the right areas, they are producing nice trout.  It was a short day so he could get back to his lovely wife, but we did catch several big trout before we got off the water.

More Wind 4-17-08 PDF Print E-mail
There was a steady 30 mph wind this morning, but Ralph Allen and his party wanted to try it anyways.  Ralph made the most of it with a solid 28 inch redfish that was a perfect tournament fish.  Candy caught a nice flounder, but then it slowed down.  We missed a few good strikes before making a run to another area that had been producing reds.  Ralph hit another red and another nice flounder before we called it quits.
