July has been a productive month for trout with a few tough days mixed in. Hurricane Dolly came through at the end of the month and she sure changed our water clarity. Cedar Bayou had been VERY steady for limits of trout until she came in. Early in the month, the winds laid down and the fishing in Copano and Corpus Christi Bay was good. The northern bay complex has also been producing good catches of trout. We had our annual CHEMO KIDS fishing tournament this month and it was a great success. The kids had a great time and so did I! Redfish have been scattered this month, but they are sure to be easier to find in the coming months. |

We have had a few windy days early in the month, but overall fishing was great. The trout bite was solid on Mud Island for a while and then we moved into CC bay. Limits were pretty steady and the wind was calm. It made for some hot days, but the fishing made up for it. We made it to Cedar Bayou a few times and it was ON!!! Overall the fishing was great this month with lots of fat trout hitting the dock.

I had a short trip with the Ingram family today. Mr. Ingram quickly informed me that he didn't like to fish past 10:00 and he didn't want to be in chopy water. This limited our options, but we made the best of it. We managed 6 nice trout and 2 big flounder by 10:00 and called it a day. The kids did well and Josh did it all on his zebco rod. They really love to fish and it is neat to see people who really enjoy their time on the water. |

I was part of a 2 boat trip today with Ron and Jon. These guys were better than the movie Grumpy Old Men. They could fish and the kept me laughing all day long. Our first stop netted us 8 nice trout and thenwe scratched for a while picking up 2 trout and 2 nice flounder. We then finished our limit of trout and went to find some reds. We managed only 1, but it was w beauty. Jon caught a 30 1/2 inch red and he made sure to let everyone know about it. We ended up with 20 trout, 2 flounder and a red. This is a yearly thing for these guys and it was really neat to see good friends having fun on the water. I was a replacement for their usual guide today, but they said I am on the team now. I don't know if I could have laughed any harder today. |

I got a late start today, but the fish didn't mind. Tony and I quickly boxed 18 nice trout and spotted a BIG blacktip shark on Mudd Island. The dolphins ate us up today, but the fish are still here. |

I had my cousins in town today and they wanted to try their hand at bay fishing today. The first part of the day was with Thomas Kelly (my cousin) and his brother in law Paul. Jason also rode out with us this morning. It was awesome to spend some time with Tom talking about the "old" days fishing on my grandparents pier and hopping from light to light. We really used to have fun as kids. Jason got off to a quick start with 6 nice trout in the first 20 minutes. Paul and Tom both picked up 1 here. We made a long run and we were instantly back on fish. By 8:00 we had 13 trout and decided to go look for reds. Tom had never caught a nice red and I was going to change that today. The wind picked up, but these guys stuck with it. Jason caught the first one and it went 28 inches on the nose. It was a beautiful big fish. We made a few more moves with no results until it was almost time to go and get Toms girls. Then the rods started bending over left and right. Jason missed a NICE fish. The rod was almost touching the water and the line was peeling off it, but he forgot the hook set in all the excitment. Then it was Tom's turn. He quickly boxed 2 nice reds back to back and then it was time to go get the girls. We changed the crew out and headed back to the trout hole. Kristen quickly caught a couple of nice trout and then we headed back in. It was a great time on the water with family. It was great to see all of them and to get to fish with them. I hope to see them again soon. |
