Today I took the Cliftons out in San Antonio Bay. We had a few minutes of nice weather before the wind blew us off the water. These folks were really great company and I wish we had better weather for them. We caught a few rat reds and 2 kepper fish. It was a very hard day on the water. I hope to take them again on a better day. |

2-25-07 THE BEST OF A BAD DAY |

I had the pleasure of fishing with two of the nicest guys from Colorado. Bob and Gary have traveled the world fishing and hunting. I sat in awe for a good portion of the morning listening to their stories of Marlin fishing, Elk hunting, and catching big Pike up north. The day started out really windy with a north wind around 30 miles an hour. St. Charles bay looked like chocalate milk, but it did have one good surprise for us. Bob landed a nice 5 lb. trout on a mud minnow. We had several rat reds, but nothing else for the box. After a few hours, I told them I knew where some fish were, but it would be a long and possibly wet run. I'll never forget Gary telling me "I'm waterproof". With this, we were on our way. The long run paid off with 20 trout, 7 sheepshead, 1 drum and 1 BIG redfish. In the end, we didn't give up on the weather and we had a big box of fish to show for it. I had a GREAT time fishing with these 2 guys. They are some of the nicest people I have fished with. Thanks for a great time guys! |

2-22-07 JUST RIGGING AROUND |

It was playtime today with calm seas and clear water. We left Port A at 6:00 and were at the rigs by 7:15. Our first pass brought in a small Bonita which we kept for a future shark trip. We had one good blow up by a Wahoo, but failed to hook up. We made a couple of moves before we finally got the bite we were looking for. We had 2 Kings on at once when one rod started to act strange. We saw a flash and then brought up a half of Kingfish. We moved over to the next rig and the bite got RED HOT! It was a double hook up everytime. We even had 3 on a few times with only 2 guys on the boat. We finally started to play with them by trolling really fast and forcing torpedo like hits. We had 3 or 4 different fish coming out of the water at one time. I would look back to see a Kingfish 10 feet in the air with a pink skirt in it's mouth. We netted about 20 Kings (only keeping 4 of course), 5 Bonita, a nice Spanish Mackeral, and a Bluefish. We were back at the dock by 1:15 and we had an awesome day on the water. I am getting really excited about the upcoming summer and the flat seas that accompany it. |

Philly and I went out for a quick fish this evening and it was fun. The temp. was hanging around 45 and the wind was blowing hard out of the North. We didn't have to stay long to fill the box. We had limits of drum shortly and decided to get off the water before the rain came down. It was a good night with a big moon. St. Charles can be very productive this time of the year. |

Today I took Paul Blom from Iowa out for a day on the water. South Texas can be cold and damp. Mr. Blom found out the hard way just how cold it can be on the water. He explained to me the Iowa is cold, but this was miserable. Water temps were low and the 4 inches of rain we had messed up the water pretty good. We found a few fish, but it was a very hard day. San Antonio Bay is very ugly after a lot of rain. |

Today I had the pleasure of taking Norman Jennings with ERA Helicopters out to San Antonio Bay. We made a few unproductive drifts before making the long run, but it was worth it again. The first spot produced limits of nice drum. We moved on to another spot and it was sheepshead and trout. We quickly had 32 fish in the box and Norman said he was tired and ready to go home. Norman was a very nice guy and he really knew how to fish. |
