3-21-07 More Kids on the Water PDF Print E-mail
Today it was Paul and Julie Ewing with their 4 boys.  It was another windy day so we chose to stay close and go after the bull drum again.  It didn't take long for Paul to hook up.  He was on his fish for about 30 minutes.  When it finally came in, we measured it at 36 inches.  This is actually smaller than any of the other fish I have had lately.  He was happy with it and we went after another.  The kids were kept busy playing with crabs and catching gafftop.  A short while later, Julie hooked up.  Her fish was clearly bigger than his was and she let him know it.  Great Trip!

After dropping Dixie off at the dock, I picked up Bob Hogg and his family.  We went roght back to the "magic spot" and got right on the fish.  The first one hit the light tackle (AGAIN!) and Bob was right on it.  His fight took all of 45 minutes with a fish going about 40 lbs.  Next we only put out the big rods for the girls.  They were just about to give up when the rod bent in half.  This fish was the "ladies fish".  Becca and Donna passed it back and forth until Becca finally got mad at the fish and decided to bring it in.  When this fish came up it was an awesome sight!  This thing was an easy 50 lbs. with a huge girth.  Becca had the biggest fish and she won the contest.  These people are a blast to fish with and I hope to see them again.

I had 2 half days today.  The first was with Dixie Doelling from Ben Brook.  She had her grandson Peyton with her.  Peyton is 3 and was ready to go.  We went out to Ingleside after the bulls again and it didn't take long to hook up.  Dixie was using 10 lb. test and she had a huge fish on.  She fought the fish for what seemed like forever.  I read the Dolly Dlophin book over and over to Peyton to give her some time to try to catch the fish.  After 1 hour and 10 minutes, she finally had this beast to the boat.  The fish went a solid 49 inches.  This one was so big I barely got it in the boat.  After the fight, she told me she couldn't catch another and was ready to go home.  She was a blast to fish with and Peyton is welcome anytime!  Great catch Dixie!!!

Chris and I ran over to the base again today.  We had the boat in the water at 6:00 pm and we were home at 7:30 pm.  Again it was a double hook up on big fish.  We were both on 10 lb. test and it was a lot of fun.  Chris took the big fish award today with a fish that was about 50 lbs.  When the fish are in here, it is fun, fast, and furious.

We made a quick trip back to Ingleside today and I put these 2 guys on some beautiful fish.  Gerg's biggest fish of his life had been a 3 lb. fish until today.  Phillip had some big fish before, but not like this.  They were both hooked up at the same time (AGAIN!) and it was fun to watch.  Greg pervailed first with a nice 40 lb. fish and Phillip followed him with a 45 lb. fish.  We were done in about an hour and on our way home.  This is really a good short trip.

Tommy and Gloria went with me on a half day trip out to Ingleside.  Our target species was the big bull drum.  We quickly hooked up and Tommy was on the way to catching the biggest fish of his life.  It was soon Gloria's turn and she did great.  Most of our hook ups were doubles.  After putting 6 big fish in the boat, we switched to the smaller tackle.  This was really fun.  Gloria had the hot hand today and caught a 45lb. fish on 10 lb. test.  We ended up with 8 big drum in about 3 hours.  This time of year, they just can't pass up the crabs.
