COLD SPELL! Most of the coast was hammered with the most severe cold we have had in decades. The was a closure of fishing and of barge traffic to prevent a fish kill. After the front, I was out looking for dead fish, but didn't see many at all. I had a wading trip in Baffin and we never saw a single dead fish on the trip. We covered a lot of water and limited out back to back days on reds. The black drum were so thick in Baffin, we caught our limit on gulps. The down side was that we never caught any big trout. Fishing in Rockport has been steady for drum. The bull drum run is right around the corner. These big fish will be in the 30-50 LB. range. Come on down and catch a giant fish on light tackle. |

Cold weather has kept us at home most of the month. The few trips I have had, we have limited out on black drum. We are still leaving late in the day, but coming in with easy limits of drum. |

I have spent more time in a deer blind than I have been on the water, but fishing has been good on the days I have gone out. We have been catching more drum than anything, but we have found some good pods of redfish. The afternoon has been better as the water is warming up in the afternoon. On a side note, the bucks in South Texas have had great antler growth due to all the rain. If you are looking for a good hunt, let me know. |

Well, I said November is one of my favorite months to fish and it didn't let me down this year! Lots and lots of nice black drum and some great reds too. The water is cooler and the trash fish have left. Shrimp is the best bait and everything is eating it. Most days, I have had my limits of reds and black drum. The best day this month was 20 drum and 12 reds by 11:00. I actually had enough time to catch double limits for my clients and clean 32 big fish, and then make it to my deer blind by 3:00 to hunt. I love South Texas! It has everything a sportsman can want. The drum bite is awesome and the reds are still eating pretty steady. |

Well, the reds stuck around. We had limits on almost every trip this month. A few back to back days, we caught over 40 reds each day. I have started to fish up North on the right conditions and it has been good also. Lots of drum early and then 10 to 15 trout to go with it. Everywhere from Aransas Bay to San Antonio Bay has been good. We finished the month in Corpus with 22 specs, 19 BIG sand trout and 4 oversize reds (38+ inches). This year has been FANTASTIC! The rain helped out a lot, but I also think the conservation efforts on the reds are starting to pay off. Next month is my favorite month of the year to fish. It is usually red hot for reds and drum. Hunting season is right around the corner and I'm ready to pull the trigger as well. If you get a chance, the winter months can offer some of the best fishing we have to offer. Hope to see you here sometime soon! |

More rain! We seem to go from a servere drought to servere flooding. This year has been the flood year. All of the fresh water has pushed me out of my favorite areas. It has also been the reason behind a few tough days. Everything South of the JFK causeway is brackish- almost fresh water. I had 3 days of heavy rain and all 3 days my clients wanted to fish anyways. We limited on reds each day. Don't ever let people tell you that you can't catch fish in the rain! The upside of it all is that that reds have gathered up in a few areas and they are thick! Limits are expected and pretty easy to get. I had a few trips up to Port O' Connor for the bull reds and it was crazy. We caught reds over 40 until we were too tired to catch anymore. I also had the worst day of the year down in Corpus after the flood. Needless to say, this month was up and down. Now that I have found the reds after the rain, I expect them to stick around for a while. |
